SUMMARY:Shine a Light: The Art and Life of Deb Koffman
DESCRIPTION:Shine a Light: The Art and Life of Deb Koffman celebrates the artistry\, life\, and mindful spirit of Berkshire-based artist and author Deb Koffman. Known for her bold\, text-infused paintings\, illustrations\, and books\, Koffman created vibrant works. \n“A champion of creativity and compassion\, Deb Koffman created art that speaks to the heart\,” said Laurie Norton Moffatt\, Director/CEO of Norman Rockwell Museum. “The abundance of love expressed in Deb’s work\, her message of radical self-acceptance\, and her art of reframing any situation to see hope and opportunity live on in her art and books. We are honored to steward her work and share her message with visitors from around the world.” \nKoffman’s work provides tools for self-kindness\, resilience\, and reflection. Her stories blend humor\, hope\, and honesty\, allowing her readers to slow down\, take a deep breath\, and reconnect with their own inner voice.

SUMMARY:MASS MoCA Presents "Spatial Poems"
DESCRIPTION:MASS MoCA presents “Spatial Poems”\, a communal exhibition in three concurrent parts. \nOn view beginning May 23\, 2026–April 4\, 2027 \nVisit: massmoca.org/press-room \nThis exhibition is developed by CEI Fellow Marissa Del Toro in collaboration with guest curators Ninabah Winton and Jamillah Hinson. “Spatial Poems” features the work of artists Cecilia Vicuña\, Lola Ayisha Ogbara\, and Sam Frésquez.  \nTogether\, the exhibitions can be understood as a score or spatial poem\, created by curators and artists working in a euphonious rhythm. Spatial Poems inspires a dialogue on care\, social relations\, and the organization of new forms of being and processes as an act of refusal to the current precaritization of the art world. \n“When I was first invited to participate in the Curatorial Exchange Initiative\, I knew that I wanted to invite other curators to take part in this opportunity\,” says Del Toro. “My proposal for Spatial Poems was conceived from a space of care and collaboration\, and my belief that working with others creates something unique that could not be envisioned alone. The works showcased in this exhibition exemplify this ethos\, and build off of one another to create a whole that has a meaning beyond the sum of its parts.” \n \n  \nAbout the Artists: \nCecilia Vicuña (b. 1948 in Santiago\, Chile; lives and works in New York\, NY and Santiago\, Chile) integrates practices of poetry\, performance\, Conceptualism\, and textile craft in response to pressing concerns of the modern world\, including ecological destruction\, human rights\, and cultural homogenization. Born and raised in Santiago\, she was exiled during the early 1970s after the violent military coup against President Salvador Allende. This sense of impermanence\, and a desire to preserve and pay tribute to the history and culture of Chile\, have characterized her work throughout her career. \nLola Ayisha Ogbara is a Nigerian American conceptual artist from Chicago\, Illinois. Her practice explores the haptic sub/conscious\, racialized voyeurism\, and transcendental sonic experiments. Ogbara has exhibited in art spaces nationwide\, including Split My Sides\, The Luminary\, St. Louis\, MO (2020); Skin + Masks III\, Kavi Gupta + EXPO Chicago\, Chicago\, IL (2023); Kemper Museum\, Fairyland\, Mindy Solomon Gallery\, Miami\, FL (2021); and Kristen Lorello Gallery. She has also received residencies\, fellowships\, and awards She has earned a BA from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA from Washington University\, Sam Fox School of Art and Design. \nSam Frésquez (she/they) was born in Mesa\, Arizona. Frésquez currently lives and works in New Haven\, Connecticut. Frésquez received her MFA in Sculpture at Yale in 2025 and her BFA from Arizona State University in Intermedia Art in 2019. Most recently\, she was included in Get In The Game: Sports\, Art\, and Culture at SFMoMA\, which will go on to travel to the Perez Art Museum in Miami and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Arkansas. They have participated in numerous residency programs along with sharing a collaborative practice with Merryn Omotayo Alaka entitled Hairland (2017-present). Lisa Sette Gallery represents Frésquez.

SUMMARY:The Year of the Humane Child
DESCRIPTION:Each May we honor and celebrate “Be Kind to Animals Week” by bringing the community together for “The Blessing of the Animals”. This is the oldest commemorative week in US history\, turning 111 years old in 2026. \n“The Blessing” is a free\, outdoors\, family event. Bring your pet for an individual hands-on blessing by Pastor Jim Miller and stay to meet the Ambassador Animals representing the dozen plus charities that fill the great lawn at the Third Lutheran Church in the middle of Rhinebeck\, NY. \nThe theme for 2026 is “The Year of the Humane Child”. This honors the work of Jane Goodall\, a woman who taught the world to see animals not as subjects of study\, but as fellow beings – sentient\, emotional\, and intelligent in ways that mirror our own cognitive and emotional lives. \n“The Blessing” will be enjoying its fourth anniversary in 2026 and we again look forward to welcoming many loving pet parents with their furry\, scaly\, feathered family members. \nEvent date is May 30th\, Noon – 4PM with a rain date of May 31st\, 1PM – 5PM. \n \n  \n  \nThe Southlands Foundation is represented by their Ambassador Animal\, Casey. Promoting their “Mommy and Me” program\, children starting at age 3 learn how to approach\, care for\, respect and share their lives with horses. Pictured with Mommy Jordan\, who grew up in the program\, is her son\, Teddy. He will follow in her foot/boot steps. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nOur Raptor Ambassador is 9-year-old\, female Eurasian Eagle Owl\, Lazarus.  She is pictured with her human companion\, Dr. Laura Jaworski.  Dr. Laura is a veterinarian\, wildlife rehabber\, educator and falconer. Laz will be with us for the 4th year and is always a main attraction.  She delights the kids and brings out the child in all of us. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nFor more information please contact Rosemary Hradek at (845) 478-2452
