Award-winning Feature Documentary Film Unbroken
May 31 @ 5:00 PM
Award-Winning documentary feature film, UnBroken, is a true story which chronicles the plight of the seven Weber siblings who, following their mother’s murder at Auschwitz, evaded certain capture and death as mere children in war torn Nazi Germany. After being hidden in a laundry hut by a benevolent farmer and his wife, the children spent two harrowing years on their own.
Emboldened by their father’s mandate that they ‘always stay together,’ their saga culminates in a painful ultimatum: for that which would save them, would also tear them apart.
This generational story is told to us by first-time filmmaker Beth Lane, the daughter of Ginger Lane, the youngest of the Weber
siblings. As a member of the (2G) Second Generation of Holocaust survivors, Lane spent years making this film as she feels it is her responsibility to highlight stories that inspire hope during a critical stage in history where normalization of antisemitism is now rampant. Explored through many angles are the Webers siblings’ courage and resistance, their parents’ love and sacrifice and the selflessness of the farmers and many upstanders who hid them. Created with interviews, archival footage and animations, the Webers’ story provides compassion and hope while sharing history not to be forgotten.
