Mt. Washington Church Fair

For an entertaining family outing or to do some early holiday shopping, head for this fun-packed fair, which celebrated its 90th anniversary last year. Almost everything is mountain-made by talented residents, some acclaimed artists and artisans. Admission is free and includes a ticket for the door-prize drawings, including some for kids only this year. The church donates most of the proceeds to a variety of local, national, and international charities, both secular and religious ones representing various faiths. The remainder benefits the tiny church, which is open only 10 Sundays in summer.
Among the newest attractions will be two raffles, one for a vintage quilt, featuring crewel-worked animal appliques, hand-stitched by more than 25 residents, and second for a vintage 46 X 74-inch, hand-hooked rug, illustrating the Church of Christ, which sponsors the event. Soon-to-be-published and available for ordering will be a new edition of the Salad Bar Cookbook, sharing old and new recipes and illustrated with a variety of salads and photos from past fairs. Once again, the hospitality raffle will give away gift certificates to fine local restaurants.
