PINKERTON’S A Bakery And Cafe From Award-Winning Pastry Chef Angela Pinkerton
January 23 - September 1
James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Angela Pinkerton opens Pinkerton’s, a bakery and cafe located in the midtown neighborhood of Kingston, New York. Angela first received recognition for her time working at dining destination Eleven Madison Park where she earned Outstanding Pastry Chef by the James Beard Foundation, however it was at Pie Society, her first solo venture in San Francisco, where she amassed a cult following for her sweet and savory pies. In 2024, Angela pursued her dream of relocating back East to open her own spot serving pastries, breakfast and brunch items, pies, cookies and more.
Angela grew up watching her grandmother, Theorita, bake pies from apples grown in her grandparents’ small Ohio orchard and, to this day, it remains Angela’s favorite dessert to bake and share. Now, these pies are available at Pinkerton’s in addition to a seasonally changing breakfast and brunch menu using the highest quality local produce, dairy and grains in partnership with surrounding farmers and purveyors. Gluten-free and vegan options are also available.
The all-day menu begins with sweet and savory pastries such as the Pecan Sticky Bun with caramel glaze and candied pecans, Jalapeno Monkey Bread with aged cheddar and spicy peppers and Pain Aux Raisin with toasted almond frangipane and dark spiced rum glaze. Heartier items include the Breakfast Sandwich with two eggs, smoked cheddar and herb garlic aioli on a housemade English muffin, Veggie Quiche, and Angela’s famed Chicken Pot Pie topped with a scallion biscuit. Coffee from Joe Coffee Company and teas from Rishi are served all day. Angela plans to expand lunch items such as sandwiches and salads next month.
And then, of course, there are sweet pies from Pie Society! Passionfruit Meringue made with a bay leaf custard and a house made graham cracker crust leads the menu alongside seasonal varieties such as Pear Plum Crumb Pie with local farmed fruit and Mud Pie with hazelnut brownie, whipped chocolate pudding and coffee whipped cream, all available to purchase whole or by the slice. Limited national shipping is available and wholesale purchasing is in the works. A glass display case showcases a jewel box of additional desserts such as Carrot Cake, Tiramisu, and assorted cookies, brownies and bars such as Pecan Snowballs and Ginger Snaps with yuzu glaze.
Pinkerton’s also offers travel-ready items to-go such as a gluten-free and vegan Banana Coconut Granola, seasonal jams, and for the furry friends, house-made doggie treats called Cheeto Treats, eponymously named after Angela’s dog.
Housed in a former service station built in 1920, the space transitioned into a bakery in the 2000’s. Now, as Pinkerton’s, the 1700 square foot-space has new life while retaining the building’s integrity and vintage feel. Windows line the space bathing the interior of the cafe and bakery in natural light. Inside, Angela’s culinary creations that fill the pastry case and retail counter serve as the main decor. In front of the kitchen sits a large baking table for guests to watch the chefs at work rolling dough and shaping pastries. The dine-in area features seating for up to 20 with tables for two and four and bench seating with cafe tables.
Pinkerton’s is located at 8 Fair Street in Kingston and is open Friday from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., and Monday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. with expanded hours and lunch menu coming soon.
